Note: Klipfolio 5 is now available! Click here to download it.
-----
Hi everybody!
Thanks to all your fantastic feedback during the past week since the release of KlipFolio 5 Beta A, we've been able to make lots of improvements for KlipFolio 5 Beta B.
But first, for those who didn't get a chance to try Beta A, here's:
New & Notable In KlipFolio 5
Column Headers with Sorting - Turn on column headers in any Klip by right-clicking on the Klip name and going to Display Settings->Show Column Headers. Click a column header to sort the Klip.
Card Layout - The latest versions of the Custom Weather and Youtube Klips use this new layout option.
Actions - Klips can now have a button (in the Klip view) and windows associated with it, as well as extra entries in the context menus. Right-click on both the items and the name of the Klip to see the available actions.
Find - Quickly search the items in a Klip. To activate the Find field, right-click on the Klip name and select "Find...".
Feed Viewer - The Feed Viewer Klip has been updated and greatly improved. New features include XML Auto discovery, drag & drop support for adding feeds, many new actions, better favicon searching, and a couple of new options in the Klip Setup window.
Drag & Drop - Klips can now detect drag & drop events. The latest Feed Viewer and Bookmarks Klips both support drag & drop for adding feeds and bookmarks, respectively.
Liquid Klips Undo - If KlipFolio's Liquid Klips feature makes a move you don't like, hit <ctrl>+Z to undo it. To redo a Klip layout change, hit <ctrl>+<shift>+Z or <ctrl>+Y.
Developer Mode Improvements - Developer Mode can now be turned on in the KlipFolio Options window, on the General tab. Klip authors, be sure to check out the improved "Developer Tools" menu.
Improved Vista Support - Windows Vista users should see a dramatic improvement in the way KlipFolio works on their operating system.
Bug Fixes - The infamous full-screen game/video flicker bug has been fixed, along with numerous other minor fixes and tweaks. See the Release Notes for the full list of changes and fixes.
What's New in Beta B?
Most of the reported bugs have been addressed and are noted as such on the list of Beta A known issues. As for the remaining issues yet to be addressed, please check the new thread, KlipFolio 5 Beta B Known Issues.
As always, the entire list of changes for this build can be found on the Release Notes.
Download KlipFolio 5 Beta B
And don't forget to check out the...
New KlipFolio 5 Klips
Looking forward to your comments!

|

hi, first time i would like to 'thank you' for the works, and for klipfolio, as the best newsreader and more...
i use your program for much years, and defenietly uncomparabla to any othe program for me...
but has some problem what not fresh but there are for a long times... i just would like to help maybe with my reply... so,
all things generated now on vista home premium, but there were on xp also anno..
1, if klipfolio behaviour always on top, we coudn't get teh options window, or the klip preferences window, cause all children window just open under the main klipfolio app. i think its not realy usable in this way and could be very annoying... if i try to minimize the application to view the childen windows, all klipfolio windows get hided yo could not help on me... i need to switch off the allways on top feature... configure klipfolio (program, or klips...) and need to switch the always on top feature again... in daily use it could kill me:) and very old problem...
2, again on vista but it was on xp also... if you could try to move the windows taskbar to the right side of the screen, just minimize any of your running application what was not maximized, but was normal windows... then get klipfolio onto the screen... then try to bring out the application what you minimized before... and wow, the windows just repositioned, more, just slip under the taskbar a little bit... i know that the right side taskbar not a common situation, but just klipfolio make this problem, nothing more... and one more interesting, what could be more visible in any case... again with right side taskbar, try to minimize media player to the taskbar as mini controller... then bring out klipfolio... and huh, it just bring out the media player at the same time, usually slipped under the taskbar... if you hide klipfolio, media player stay on the desktop, but jump from under the taskbar to the real active surface, but exactly close to taskbar... so interesting window handling problems what are not just on vista but there are for a long time... and just klipfolio could mak these problems....
so verly lot of thanks in advanced if you could try to solve these... maybe the same thing as you wrote as problem with dual monitor...
thank you again in advanced... _________________ -e- |

one more sorry... i forgot...
if you have a properly configured rss reader klip... and delete all your items from it, then automatically show me the add feed button... i think its not needed as not new klip, and configured properly with more feed, but actualy empty... when you configure more such rss klip, and just empty all... you need to see a lot of add button, what is not to nice in this situation...
thanks again... _________________ -e- |

I have given this quite a bit of thought, and it is not easy to come up with a layout that would suit everyone.
The prominence of "expand/collapse" is not necessary, On click already does this, and in my case so does mouseover.
The ideal Klip context menu for me would be:
Refresh Klip
-------------------------
Remove All
Copy All
Remove Read
-------------------------
Alerts
Find
Copy Link
-------------------------
Display Settings (Add the "expand / collapse" to the top)
Manage Klip
-------------------------
Developer Tools
-------------------------
Customize Klip
You could even move the "Customize Klip" to the Manage Klip sub menu, however this may be a step too far for some people. |

Hi!
It's great to see that Beta B has already been taken out for a test drive!
ebola:
We've been able to reproduce issues 1 and 3 you posted and are looking into them. We're posting the status of these issues on the Beta B Known Issues thread, so please check there for their status.
However, we haven't been able to reproduce the two issues mentioned under #2 on XP or Vista. So, please provide us with the following information that hopefully will help us see them. If answers are different for the first part of #2 and for Media Player issue, please mention that also:
a. If possible, please send us at support@serence.com screenshots of before and after the problems happen.
b. For KlipFolio, what are the layout settings you are using? (Floating? Always on Top? etc.)
c. Is your Windows taskbar on Auto-hide?
d. If you are unable to send screenshots, please describe in detail everything you think will help us make our screen look the same as yours. For example, what applications are open/minimized/maximized; where is the application before it is minimized; how are you bringing KlipFolio to be visible on screen; etc. etc.
krapanj:
Thank you for the suggestions! We'll take another look at our Klip menu and see what we can do to improve it!

ebola,
Thank you for the screenshots and for the description of each issue! We have been able to reproduce the problems, so our development team is investigating the causes. I've put both issues on the Beta B Known Issues list, so please check it for our progress.
joshposh,
Could you please check to see if the 'sounds' folder for KlipFolio contains sound files and they play? You will find this folder by going to Windows' Start menu > All Programs > KlipFolio > Open KlipFolio Folder. We haven't been able to reproduce the problem, so we'd also like to ask for more details on your setup, such as the version of Windows, with screensaver on/off, which alert sound is picked for which Klip, which Klips have alerts on, etc.
Also... did the no-sound problem start from the very first time you used KlipFolio 5 Beta B with alerts, or was there sound at some time on this release but it went away?

The soundsfiles are there (they play when I preview them in the Klip Settings too).
The problem started as soon as I upgraded to KF 5.
May I check if a clean install helps?

Hi joshposh,
Thanks for checking... Yes, if you wouldn't mind, please see if a clean install helps, but please back up all the KlipFolio files before uninstalling!

one new interesting thing that beta b dont minimize when i double-click on the 'header-line/frame...' is it a bug, or in the future this will be a standard?

Hi ebola,
I can't reproduce the issue you're describing - Beta B seems to be minimizing in response to double-clicks properly on my computer. Where exactly are you double-clicking? Does clicking on the taskbar icon still minimize KlipFolio for you? Does anything change if you close and restart KlipFolio?

Hi Jeremy,
now I know what is the difference between us... if you use floating layout the double click on header of opened klipfolio (not the try icon... the top basic frame of klipfolio, where are the standard buttons...(refresh, menu, add rss... etc...)) so when you double click on the header then klipfolio minimize itself... but when klipfolio is in left or right sidebar stat, then the double click on the header could not minimize it... so on floating state it works but on sidebar not...
thanks for your response... _________________ -e- |

I'm using KF5 in right sidebar / auto hide mode. If I double click on the header bar, KF5 is sticky, i.e. it doesn't auto hide anymore until I again double click the header bar.
But this seems reasonable and by design, since I wouldn't want to minimize an auto hiding KF5 anyway.
It seems that the misbehavior is narrowed to a space-reserving sidebar.
Cya,
hmoeller. |

Hi ebola & hmoeller,
I've reproduced the issue now. Double-clicking on the main toolbar should minimize KlipFolio when in non-auto-hiding sidebar mode, but it doesn't in KF5 Beta B. Our development team will investigate what's happening. Thanks for helping to find this one.
