What is a Klip?
A Klip is a widget used to visualize your data using formats such as charts, tables, and gauges. Klips are comprised of components, attributes that control the important properties associated with your Klip. Think of a Klip as a container and a component as what is inside the container.
Here's an example of a Klip that displays a Table component:
What types of components can I build?
Components determine how your Klip looks on your dashboard. Each component represents a different type of data visualization you can build. Here's a list of components that you can use to build Klips:
- Funnel chart component
- Bar/line chart component
- Gauge component
- HTML template component
- Image component
- Inline frame components
- Label component
- Map component
- Mini-chart component
- News component
- Pie chart component
- Pictograph component
- Scatter/Bubble Chart components
- Separator component
- Submit Button component
- Table component
- User Input Control component
- Value Pair component
How do I build a Klip?
The typical workflow for building a Klip includes five steps:
- Choose the component style
- Choose the data source
- Assign data to sub-components
- Adjust properties
- Save and share the Klip
Note: These steps provide a general overview for building a Klip. For more detailed instructions, refer to the Build-A-Klip tutorial.
Step 1. Choose the component style
When building a new Klip, you are prompted to choose from a list of component styles. You also have the option to choose a Blank slate, to which you can add components later.
- On your dashboard, click +Add a Klip.
- Click Build a Custom Klip.
- On the right side of the Klip Editor, choose a component and drag it into your Klip.
Step 2. Choose the data source
Next, you need to provide a data source for the Klip to use. Here are some commonly used data source types:
At the bottom of the Klip Editor, click +Add Data Source to connect your data. You can either add an existing data source or you can create a new data source.
Note: You can simplify the Klip building experience by modelling your data source before using it to build a Klip. Learn more about the benefits of modelled data sources here.
Step 3. Assign data to sub-components
Each component type has different sub-components associated with it, so it's important to note that the following steps only illustrate the typical workflow for assigning data to a sub-component. For more information on this step, see how to use the Klip Editor.
- Select and insert a sub-component from the component tree into your Klip.
- Open its Data panel.
- Select a value(s) from your data source.
The value(s) is assigned to the sub-component as it appears in your data source.
Step 4. Adjust properties
Use the Properties panel to adjust properties associated with each of your sub-components. Commonly used properties include font style, prefixes and suffixes, and alignment.
Step 5. Save and share the Klip
When you are done building your Klip, click the Save or Save and Exit button at the top of the Klip Editor. To share your Klip, from your dashboard, click the 3-dot menu for the Klip, and select Share. See this article for more information on sharing Klips.
