Step-by-Step

Creating a data source using Campaign Monitor

To create a data source using Campaign Monitor data, you need to accomplish 4 tasks:

  • Start the data source creation process
  • Retrieve your Campaign Monitor API Key
  • Craft a query and enter it in Klipfolio
  • Complete the authentication and data source creation process

Note: This guide assumes that you already have an active Campaign Monitor account.

Step 1: Start the data source creation process

To create a data source using Campaign Monitor, go to the Connector Gallery page in Klipfolio and select REST/URL.

Step 2: Retrieve your Campaign Monitor API Key

To retrieve your API Key, login to your Campaign Monitor account and click Account Settings . Below your company name and other details, locate and click Show API Key.

NOTE: You will only see the API key link if you have verified your account. This is done by clicking the verification link in the email that Campaign Monitor sends you after your account is created.

Step 2: Craft a query and enter it in Klipfolio

Campaign Monitor provides many query options through its API documentation.

Here is a sample query to work with:

To get a list of your clients

https://api.createsend.com/api/v3.1/clients.json.

Enter your query URL in the URL field in the REST connector.

Edit the query date ranges

Many Klips that use Campaign Monitor data need a date range that is dynamic (for example, past 30 days). In this section we're going to change the query from a fixed range to a dynamic one.

  1. Enter start-date={date.last30Days} at the end of your Query URL (after the ?).
  2. Enter &end-date={date.today} at the end of your Query URL (after the start-date parameter).
  3. Click the Get File button.
  4. Click the Continue button once you verify you have retrieved the correct data.
  5. Save and name your data source.
