New to PowerMetrics and want to learn more about the product and how it works? Check out our sample metrics! Based on evolving, realistic data, managed by Klipfolio in our data warehouse, sample metrics behave the same way as those you create from your own data sources. As a result, they’re a great, risk-free way to experiment with and explore PowerMetrics before diving in and connecting to your data.
Sample metrics were released on September 3rd, 2024. If you started with us on or after that date, we automatically added a set of sample metrics to your account. If not, no worries, it’s easy to add pre-built or custom sample metrics yourself.
Note: Some pricing plans limit the number of metrics you can have in your account at any one time. If that applies to you, there are two things to note. 1. Sample metrics count toward your metric limit. 2. Sample metrics are easy to remove. And, if your plan changes or you have extra room in your account for more metrics later, they’re easily added back.
Adding pre-built and custom sample metrics
As mentioned above, depending on when you started your PowerMetrics account, you may already have sample metrics. If so, you can immediately find them in your list of metrics.
To find sample metrics in your account:
- In the left navigation sidebar, click Metrics, to open your list of metrics.
- If you don’t see sample metrics in the list, click the drop-down in the Services filter and select Sample metrics. (See below.)
If you don’t have any sample metrics yet, you can quickly add some.
To add sample metrics to your account:
- In the left navigation sidebar click the + button beside Metrics and select See all services.
- On the Where is your data? page, in the Sample Metric Service section, click the Sample Metrics tile. (See below.)
Tip: To quickly find the Sample Metric Service section, enter “sample” into the “Search by service” field or select the tag. -
To add one or more pre-built sample metrics to your account, select each metric, then, click the Add metrics button.
The sample metrics are added to your list of metrics. -
To add a custom sample metric to your account, click Build a custom metric using sample data.
- Configure the custom sample metric by selecting a table/view and a measure.
- Click the Settings tab and adjust the metric’s properties as desired. For example, change the format from numeric to currency or reverse the favourable trend.
- Click the About tab to, for example, change the metric’s name (it was auto-named based on the measure you selected), add a description, or certify the metric.
- When you’re done making selections, click Save metric.
The custom sample metric is added to your list of metrics.
Removing sample metrics
If you want to reduce the number of metrics in your account, for example, because you’ve finished experimenting and learning from the sample metrics or you need to reduce the number of metrics to fit into your current plan, you can easily remove them.
To remove sample metrics from your account:
- In the left navigation sidebar, click Metrics, to open your list of metrics.
- To only display sample metrics, click the drop-down in the Services filter and select Sample metrics.
- Select the checkbox beside the name of each metric you want to delete and click the Delete button in the upper-left of the page.
- Confirm you want to delete the metric by clicking Delete or click Cancel to keep the metric.
How does working with sample metrics compare to working with the metrics I create using my own data?
Great news! You can interact with sample metrics in almost exactly the same way as with the metrics you create using your own data. The only difference is that we manage the data source for you, so you won’t be able to edit their underlying data.
This means you can do almost everything with sample metrics, combine them to create calculated metrics or multi-metric charts, experiment with them in the Explorer and check out PowerMetrics AI, certify them, share them, add goals to them, personalize their display, add them to dashboards ... the list goes on and on.
