You can sign up for a new Klipfolio account or sign into an existing Klipfolio account by using a Klipfolio email and password (which can optionally be enabled with multi-factor authentication) or by using your Google, Xero, or Intuit account credentials.
Whichever method you choose to sign up with Klipfolio will be the method you use to sign in to your account going forward. You cannot use two different sign-in methods at the same time for the same account.
This article includes the following:
- The Klipfolio email and password sign-in option
- Multi-factor authentication
- Google, Xero, and Intuit sign-in options
- Changing the sign-in type for an existing user

Multi-factor authentication
When you use your Klipfolio email and password as a sign-in method, you can enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) – a key component in keeping your account secure.
This section includes:
- Notes on multi-factor authentication
- Enabling multi-factor authentication
- Updating your multi-factor authentication method
- Disabling multi-factor authentication
Notes on multi-factor authentication
Here are a few things to note about MFA:
- MFA is not supported if you use single sign-on.
- If you change from the email sign-in method to a different sign-in method (for example, Google Sign-In) MFA will need to be disabled.
- Account administrators can see which users have MFA enabled by clicking the button in the left navigation sidebar, selecting Users, and referring to the information under MFA.
Enabling multi-factor authentication
To enable MFA:
- Click your account name (at the bottom of the left navigation sidebar) and select My profile.
- At General Information, click Edit.
- At Multi-Factor Authentication, click Enable multi-factor authentication.
- In the Select an authentication method pop-up, select either Authenticator app or Email. Click Continue.
- If you chose the Authenticator app method:
- In the Set up your authenticator app pop-up, either scan the QR code using your authenticator app or copy and paste the text code into your authenticator app. Click Continue.
- In the Enter verification code pop-up, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app and click Verify code. (Note that this code expires after 30 seconds.)
- In the Save your recovery code pop-up, copy the recovery code and save it in a secure location for future reference if needed. Click Finished.
- If you chose the Email method:
- In the Enter verification code pop-up, enter the 6-digit code that was emailed to you. Click Continue. (Note that this code expires after 30 minutes.)
- In the Save your recovery code pop-up, copy the recovery code and save it in a secure location for future reference if needed. Click Finished.
- On your My Profile page, click Save.
From now on, when signing in to Klipfolio, you’ll be prompted to enter an authentication code (or the most-recently saved recovery code). (See below.)
Updating your multi-factor authentication method
After setting up MFA, you can update your settings to use a different verification method (email or an authenticator app). Note that the first step when updating is to disable your current authentication method.
To update your MFA method:

- At General Information, click Edit.
- At Multi-Factor Authentication, click Update authentication method.
- Enter your Klipfolio password to confirm you want to disable your current authentication method. Then, click Disable current method and continue. (See below.)
- In the Select an authentication method pop-up, select either Authenticator app or Email, and click Continue.
- Follow the steps for enabling multi-factor authentication (beginning at step #5).
Disabling multi-factor authentication
To disable MFA:
- Click your account name (at the bottom of the left navigation sidebar) and select My profile.
- At General Information, click Edit.
- At Multi-Factor Authentication, click Disable.
- In the Disable multi-factor authentication pop-up, enter your Klipfolio password and click Disable multi-factor authentication. (See below.)
- On your My Profile page, click Save.
Google, Xero, and Intuit sign-in options
You can use your Google, Xero, or Intuit account credentials to sign into Klipfolio.
Here are a few notes on the Google, Xero, and Intuit sign-in options:
- If you’re creating an account through an invitation link or email, ensure you choose the Google, Xero, or Intuit account your administrator has associated with the invitation.
- Google, Xero, and Intuit sign in options are not supported in conjunction with Domain Aliasing. If you add Domain Aliasing to your account, all users must be switched over to use the email sign-in method.
- To use Google sign in for Google Chrome in Incognito mode, you need to toggle the “Block third-party cookies” option off to enable third-party cookies.
To sign up using Google, Xero, or Intuit:
- On the Klipfolio homepage:
- If you want to start with PowerMetrics, in the top navigation bar, click Products > PowerMetrics and click Get Started Free.
- If you want to start with Klips, in the top navigation bar, click Products > Klips and click Get Started Free.
- Click Sign up with Google or Sign up with Xero or Sign up with Intuit.
- Select the Google, Xero, or Intuit account that you want to use to sign in to Klipfolio and enter your credentials if you’re not already signed in.
Note: If you decide you no longer want to use Google, Xero, or Intuit sign in, you need to contact your administrator to change your sign-in type.
Changing the sign-in type for an existing user
Account administrators can change a user’s sign-in method. The sign in type (Google, Xero, Intuit, or Email) for each of your users is displayed on the All Users page, accessed by clicking the button and selecting Users.
Note: If the user has the email and password sign-in option with MFA enabled, you'll disable MFA when you switch them to the Google, Xero, or Intuit sign in.
To switch an existing user to Google, Xero, or Intuit sign in:
- From the All Users page, click on the user’s name.
- Click the Switch to Google Sign In or Switch to Xero Sign In or Switch to Intuit Sign In button.
The user will receive an email containing a link to connect to their Google, Xero, or Intuit account.
To unlink a Google, Xero, or Intuit account for an existing user:
- From the All Users page, click on the user’s name.
- At Google Sign In is enabled or Xero Sign In is enabled or Intuit Sign In is enabled, click the Unlink button beside it to unlink the account.
- You can copy the URL in the dialog and send it to the user to create a new Klipfolio password. Click Apply to send an email to the user that contains the link to enter a new password.
Note: Their new password is for Klipfolio only and will not affect their Google, Xero, or Intuit account.
