Your data journey - an overview
On your PowerMetrics journey, you'll begin by connecting to your data and choosing the metrics you want to track. Next, you'll visualize your data, by selecting from a variety of chart options. Then, you'll pinpoint related metrics and display them on a dashboard.
From here on your metrics will continue to collect data and build history, enabling you to collaborate, learn, and grow by analyzing, sharing, and monitoring your data.
Connecting to your data
With PowerMetrics, you can access data from cloud applications or from files stored on your computer, databases, or in cloud file sharing services.
PowerMetrics makes it easy to connect to your data, no matter where it is. For example, to connect to data services, like Google Analytics, HubSpot, and Facebook, just log into the service and give PowerMetrics permission to access your data.
Creating modelled data sources and data feeds
Note: Our recent redesign combines raw and modelled data sources into a single object called a data feed. We're gradually releasing this new feature to our customers. If you see Data Feeds in the left navigation sidebar, then your account uses data feeds, not data sources.
When you connect to your data, you bring that data into PowerMetrics, resulting in a data source or a data feed.
For data sources: Metrics rely on modelled data sources. When you add instant metrics, we model the data for you. When you add custom metrics, you’ll create your own modelled data sources. Learn more about modelling your data sources.
For data feeds: When you add instant metrics, we create and manage data feeds for you. When you add custom metrics, you’ll create your own custom data feeds. Learn more about data feeds.
Visualizing your data as metrics
In PowerMetrics, you visualize your data in metrics, like the one shown below. There are many chart types and styles available to choose from. Go here for an introduction to our visualization options.
There are a few metric options to choose from:
- Instant metrics: Instant metrics help you visualize data quickly.
- Custom metrics: Hands-on metrics you create from scratch.
- Calculated metrics: Combine existing metrics using a formula.
- Multi-metrics: Compare and consolidate multiple metrics into a single visualization (in Explorer and on dashboards)
No matter which metric type you choose, our flexible design features will help you build metrics quickly and communicate your business data effectively. Learn more about creating metrics.
After adding metrics, you can, optionally, certify them. Certified metrics are the ones you recommend for use across your organization. Learn more about metric certification.
Tip: Practice building metrics using the sample data included in your Klipfolio account! Learn about sample metrics here.
Setting metric goals
Keep a close eye on your data and track its progression by adding goals to your metrics. When a goal is reached, you (and everyone with shared access to the metric) can be notified with in-app and email notifications. Learn more about metric goals and notifications.
Exploring your metrics
After you've added some metrics, it’s time to explore your data. When exploring, you make personalization changes that are only visible to you. It’s a great way to experiment with and find the optimal visualization(s) before adding your metrics to a dashboard. Learn more about exploring your metrics.
Creating metric dashboards
You've got metrics! It’s time to display them on a dashboard.
Metric dashboards are highly flexible, empowering you to create unique displays tailored to your specific needs and audience. A diverse set of configuration options means you can individualize each dashboard display. Add several views of a single metric and then apply different filters and segmentation to display your data from multiple perspectives, add text and images, set dashboard-wide date ranges and filters - there are so many possibilities for customization on a metric dashboard!
You’ve got a story to tell! Sharing your metrics helps keep everyone informed and progressing toward common goals. It also encourages collaboration and discussion, leading to meaningful action.
You can share metrics and metric dashboards by:
- Sharing internally with individuals or groups in your account and, optionally, granting them editing rights.
- Sharing a published view of a dashboard, with internal or external users, and giving recipients either public or passcode access. You can also use published views to display dashboards on TVs throughout the office.
- Downloading and then sharing a PDF of your dashboards for digital or print distribution.
