New Look: Klip titles are now much bigger. What do you think?

With the new look and feel we've introduced significantly larger Klip titles.

We did this after observing how many Klip builders were jumping through hoops to hide Klip titles and add their own using Label components (set to medium font size). Klip titles can provide valuable context for visualizations---and when small---they can get lost.

It took us a few days to adjust to them on our own dashboards but we can't go back now.

We did anticipate some follow-on requests so we moved up a feature to allow users to hide them altogether (it's a Klip property settable in the Klip Editor.)

We've now had requests for smaller and/or adjustable fonts, or less padding. Any other suggestions? If you got more control, would you prefer it at the Klip-, dashboard-, or account-level? Or based on normal vs. TV mode?

Love it that I can now hide klip titles. However, I always need to edit klip and uncheck “show klip title”. Would be more user-friendly if this kind of setting would be also available in klip settings directly in the dashboard, so that in some place I could easily click and choose do I want to show klip title or not without editing klip itself. Of course even better would be if these kind of settings were in dashboard settings in the dashboard menu (or somewhere) where you could easily choose that do you want to show klip titles for all the klips in dashboard. Now I have to manually edit every single klip on our dashboard, and this can be time-consuming if we have over 10 klips on the same dashboard.

I know, your tool is pretty awesome since this is the only small detail that I would make better… ;)

Thanks for the feedback Antti. We were just discussing today the possibility of enabling some simple Editor-class actions (like hide/show Klip titles, re-title Klip, etc.) right from the dashboard for those who have edit rights. We'll see.

First of all thanks to Peter and Zack for their fast answers and help. As a Workaround the described solution to costumize the Klip Titles font size works for me (using HTML within Klip titles: <p style="font-size:20px">klip title</p>. In General it would be great du adjust the font size, font style, etc. and integrate own Fonts in all Klips and Dashboards. The old bold font was really "bold" compared to the new one. Viele Grüße!

Hiding Klip Titles is a good feature and i believe it can be very useful.

In our case, with the bigger titles, we will have some titles that will have 2 lines of text (have to edit them) and, at the same time, we will have to rearrange all our dashboards (more title height means some klips will be cutted on bottom).

The big font size on title could be the klip default but have the chance to change it to a small one would also be helpful.

    Thanks

Added flexibility is great and the hide klip title feature is nice to have. Currently, all of our dashboards (and pdf exports) use the klip titles.

Each dashboard is presentation ready on screen or in pdf format. The pdf side takes hours of trial and error to be pixel perfect with multiple page (no breaks) layouts.

The recent changes to size and padding of the titles throws a big wrench into our layouts. Klips are spilling over across pages and it will take hours of editing to enable the p tag hack with no assurance that it cascades through to the pdf export css (pdf seems to have a different set of rendering rules/css).

A dashboard or account wide setting which also works for the pdf would be excellent.

    @Tim, Thanks for the feedback!

Wrt your PDF question, are you saying you would like to set an account-level default for PDFs?

    • Layout: portrait vs. landscape
    • Size: Fit to one page, Multiple pages, Multiple pages (no breaks)
    • Annotations: include or not
    • Quality: Low (better for large images) or not

Assuming individual schedules or ad hoc downloads would have the option to override the default.

Is that what you had in mind?  Do you have a feel for how much effort that kind of global setting would save you?

    Thanks again,

    Scott.

Thanks for the reply Scott. That's not the problem we're looking to solve at this point. The issue is with klips bleeding over to the following page because of the larger klip title in the new design. We've done the layouts so the klips fit perfectly in the dashboard layout when exported to pdf. We use both portrait and landscape, always use Multiple Pages (no breaks) and spent time adding appropriate whitespace/padding to get the spacing just right in the pdf.

All of our dashboards end up being multiple page pdfs so this 'bleeding' issue is on 20+ dashboards and even more klips. We're fine to implement custom css or a work around as long as it renders the same in the browser as with the pdf export.

@Tim, Thanks for the additional context.  We are working on giving more flexibility to the titles.

    Hi,

Just seen the new option Title Size.  Great option for all of us.

    New look seems pretty good.

    Thanks.
