Use variables in series label

Variables can be used to change the title of a klip dynamically. It would be great if the series label could also use variables. For example "{country} Revenue"

I definitely agree on this. Would be great to be able to change these series dynamically so we can use the same graph for a lot of data sources.

This is a great idea. Also it will be great the Series to be named based on the values in the Data Source. In a Table Klip this is possible by choosing " Use first values as column headers"

We would really like to see this feature in the near future. Right now we simulate this by creating a table to get the top 5 performing "things". Then drive our charts off of that table. It is ugly and clumsy and results in series labels of "Thing 1", "Thing 2", etc...

    is that possible now?

I also agree. Staticly limiting what the series title is really hurts for creative klip development. I have a klip that allows the user to select from 2 different dropdowns for comparing data, yet I can't name the series values in the chart with the selected values, so the series titles are called "Selection 1" and "Selection 2". It would be preferable if I could use the selected values for the series titles respecctively to eliminate confusion.

I definitely agree on this. Is it still in the pipeline?

    Hi Fang,

Thanks for adding your voice to this enhancement request.  A couple of very different use cases are articulated in the thread above.  It would be great to better understand your use case - what you are trying to do and what is driving the need.

Any additional context you can share would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Scott.

    Hi Scott,

    Any progress on this request?

Having dynamic series labels is key when for example each of your series in a graph depend on a variable like the example below.

    Many thanks,

    David

    same issue here,

in order to reply my klips to more customers, we will need a dynamic way to pull some text data to use as a title of each series we need.

For now i consider to use a general text like Category 1, Category 2 , ..  and use labels manually colored in the default order of grahp klips   like a visual reference

I also need this. I am creating a stacked bar chart of product sales by month, to show which products are selling the most each month. But for now I have two choices:

    1) label each series "product 1", "product 2", "product 3", etc

    2) hardcode label each series according to the value in the P&L report, and check in weekly to see if my client has added new/different products.

Right now I am doing option 2. But it's tedious and time-consuming. Please fix!

My series names are years, so every year I have to go in and manually change the year, please fix this.

I would want to be able to choose the series from the data source.  My scenario is series representing years and also having to change the Klips each year.

Is there any update on this ?

My use case is where my user will choose a day and the graph will show a 7 day comparison of energy usage so the ability to dynamically name each series to the correct day is essential.

We need this feature as well for the same use case as the Able Freight tech team.

The series used to be named "this year", "last year" and "two years ago", but the users perceived the labels "2018", "2017" and "2016" as more clear. However, that means the data becomes incorrect at 1 januari each year.

Thank you all for the feedback. We have a project in the labs that is looking at enabling something like dynamic series that might address the kinds of things you are trying to do — though it would be a different approach to achieving it. I will provide an update when it is ready for you to try out.

I have a datasource with 10 series in rows. Column A has the label for each series. The order of the series changes every week depending on the value in the last column. I have to check, if the labels match the data source and change it manually. Automation on data update becomes a little bit useless. I have several klips with this requirement. It would be sufficient for me to use a reference to the appropriate cell in the data source for the label of each colum, e.g. @A2.

Besides me there are other colleagues in our organization with this need.

Any updates on the dynamic labeling.  Our need is much simpler than most of these folks.  We are using one master report and copying them over to multiple client spaces.  It would be nice to front their name on the reports without having to go and modify each one.

    Hi All,

Have you checkout PowerMetrics yet? You can segment PowerMetrics with any dimension in your data without worrying about defining specific series. Please watch the following video for a quick overview:

I believe PowerMetrics should address this requirement and a lot more. Enjoy!

    Thanks!
