    Klipfolio Support Official comment

The Google Analytics Realtime API is still a Limited Beta and has some significant API call limits associated with it - often resulting in disabled data sources as Google restricts the number of calls.

When this API is released in production with the limits adjusted accordingly, we will revisit supporting a connection to this API.

Hi, has this been resolved now? I have been asked to build a real time Google analytics dashboard for senior management and I notice that the official comment from Klipfolio was over a year ago.

Can real time be integrated into the dashboards now?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have used the real time API beta for a few years, and it works fine with Klipfolio. But the Google Analytics connector only allows you to refresh every 15 minutes (changed from 1 minute a year ago). Not very useful.

Any news on this topic? Heaving the real-time numbers is a crucial decision factor for choosing a dashboard tool for our business. I love Klipfolio and would really like to introduce it into our business, but since it's seems to be impossible... I'm afraid I have to go for one of the other dashboards who do support the real-time stats.

    Hi Kevin -

The Real-Time API is a separate API than the Google Analytics API. Is the Real-Time API the data you are trying to integrate with Klipfolio? What data are you trying to bring out of it?

    Hi Meggan,

I know it's a different API. I'm just curious if it is supported in Klipfolio.

Since we are in the media and television business it's crucial for us to see how many visitors we have 'at this moment' on our website. That's why the Google Analytics Real-Time data is perfect. We tested other dashboard tools which support this, but I can't find it in Klipfolio...

It is supported (I use it in Klipfolio), but it will only refresh every 15 minutes.

    Hi Jorn,

Thx for your feedback. Having a 15min refresh on real-time data isn't particularly joyful news, but it might be workable. Can you tell me how to set it up? I can't find it in the pre-defined widgets, and I'm not familiar (yet) with the Klipfolio custom data sources and widgets.

Are you really sure the API is not realtime? Klipfolio allows 15 as minimum refresh rate...testing in GA (API) it seems to change with every refresh...

Hi, we are doing a further investigation into integrating with the Real-Time API. I will provide an update soon.

@kevin: create a GA RT query in the same way you do with the regular GA reporting API (create a new GA data source manually).

    List of dimensions and metrics:
    https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/reporting/realtime/dimsmets/

    Query example:
    https://www.googleapis.com/analytics/v3/data/realtime?ids=ga:12345678&metrics=rt:activeUsers&dimensions=rt:source,rt:medium&sort=-rt:activeUsers

The Realtime API is only in Beta (is has been in beta for at least 3 years...), and you have to apply for access:
    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc9OpoDGB3tBD7oy1OG9fyum8KBIxs-2ihPCsHp13WTnM-SSQ/viewform

In Klipfolio, refresh interval for GA data sources is limited to 15 minutes. A few years a go, Klipfolio allowed data refresh every minute...

The Google Analytics RT API works perfectly with Klipfolio (you are able to pull data very easily), but Klipfolios refresh-interval does not support the main use-cases for this API. Would love to see a workaround :-)

    @ Everyone in this thread:
We've succesfully used SuperProxy to schedule a Realtime API request and pass that on to Klipfolio as a REST/URL source.
As the support team has noted, the realtime API is quite sensitive to API call limits.

It's not a perfect solution, but considering that the API is still in Beta and Klipfolio really isn't meant to handle realtime data, it's about as good as it gets.
