date picker control logic

when using date picker control

i'd like to have startdate check that date entered is < or = to enddate

i'd like to have enddate check that date entered is = or > than startdate

also a way to somehow notify user that start date and end date have dates that conflict with above logic

    Hi Edward,

Thanks for your feedback.  I will add your inputs to requested changes to the date picker.

    Cheers,

    Scott.

We are currently using only month intervals because they are easier to control with a Drop-down list.

Nonetheless, our clients keep coming up with the request to be able to use periods of days.

Therefore, this feature would be very useful for about 70% of all Klips that we deploy.

Do you have any news on this, Scott? Is this a request that is currently being implemented?

    Thank you!

    Hi Fabricio,

Thanks for sharing additional context here.  We are working on some elements related to dates right now, however I do not yet have a target date for this specific request.

That said, can you describe your use case a little more?  It would be great to understand what you are trying to do and how you have currently approached it. And, what you are envisioning as the desired experience.

    Thanks,

    Scott.

Hi Scott. Thank you for your answer.

Our use case has the following characteristics:

    • Our data sources contain information grouped by date (the most common format is YYYYMMDD).
    • Our clients need to select randomly any data within the minimum and maximum dates from these data sources.
    • Currently, the users can incorrectly select dates outside the date range from the data source. Therefore, we use to set up labels to alert them of the minimum and maximum dates available, but this is not an ideal solution.
    • Moreover, since we use 2 date pickers (for start and end dates respectively), the users could select a start date greater than the end date. In this case, the BETWEEN logic function with a greater start than an end would return an error, but the data currently loaded in the components would still be loaded, generating some confusion for the users.

The following features would solve our problems:

    1. Possibility to set minimum and maximum available dates for date pickers (similar to Drop-downs with the fields "Values" and "Labels"). These fields would have to take as inputs any regular formula containing data from data sources, other components, variables, and so on.
    2. Disable dates from the date picker that cannot be selected due to the restrictions of item 1. For instance, if the available dates start on 05/15/2016, all dates before that should be disabled on the date picker calendar that pops up.

I guess this is the experience that we currently envision.

    Thank you again, Scott.

    Hi Fabricio,

Thank you for the additional insights about your use case and the kinds of things you would like to see in a solution.  I will augment the description we have and ensure it is in the queue for prioritization.

    Cheers,

    Scott.

    + another one!

I have avoided using the date picker for this reason and, instead, have opted to make manual drop down menus with month and day selections to avoid confusion. I know if someone selects dates outside of range available in the data source they will be confused as to why the numbers don't match [insert some other sales or accounting report here].

I haven't built any "date range" Klips yet, just month/day/year selections. But I imagine I will have to cross that bridge at some point.

It would be great to be able to set limits on the date picker by limited "start date" to "minimum date in data source and "end date" to "maximum date in data source".
