Create a copy of an existing dashboard, just like creating a copy of a klip.

It would be great if it was possible to copy an entire dashboard, including klips and data sources, at once. Then, it would be possible to create multiple dashboards with the same lay-out even faster and you wouldn't have to bother copying each seperate klip and change the data sources for that given klip. You could just copy the dashboard and change the data source in each klip, that has already been copied, right away.

Hi Stefan - we do not provide the ability to Copy Dashboards in Klipfolio.  However, I see that Netprofiler is a Klipfolio Partner with Client Features turned on.  This allows you to import a dashboard into a client account (thus creating a copy).  You can rename and configure it there, and import it back as required.  Give that a try and see if that helps.  https://support.klipfolio.com/hc/en-us/articles/215548718-Importing-Klips-dashboards-and-data-sources?query=import

    Hi Rupert,

I know, however I would like this feature to be added in the near future :-)

I could use the import but this still requires me to perform quite some tasks when I want to copy a dashboard in the same client acount. Thanks anyway.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Stefan,

Thanks for continuing to add your voice.  I would love to further understand your use case.  Would you be willing to share more about what you are trying to do and why?  I have had discussions with customers and partners on the topic of copying dashboard, however usually, the objective was to get the exact same layout as they had on an existing dashboard.   If the ask was to duplicate the assets, it was typically to set up a new Client and using Import addressed this objective.  It sounds like you have a different use case.

Are you aiming to create a complete duplication of dashboards, Klips and data sources to meet the needs of a new customer in the same account?  Or is there another purpose you are working towards?  What would you do to the data sources and Klips afterwards to address your need?  (I am assuming you would be making some kind of changes to the data sources or Klips or both.)

Any additional context would be very helpful to understand more about what you are trying to accomplish and ensure all context is reflected as this enhancement request is reviewed and prioritized.

    Thanks again,

    Scott.

    Hi Scott,

I didn't receive any update in my e-mail inbox on this topic so when I checked this topic a couple of days ago, I saw your answer. Anyway, please find my answer below.

I have a different user case indeed. Like I already mentioned, we are aware of the feature to import a dashboard into a new client account. However, we often would like to create a copy of a dashboard for the same client in the same account, instead of what you mentioned, create a copy for a new client in the same account. This is because some clients of ours would like to see the same layout in klips but show different data. In order to realize this there are two options right now:

    1. Import a dashboard into another -dummy- account and re-import the dashboard back into the client account to create the copy (like Rupert mentioned in his response).

    2. Go to the dashboard which should be copied to another tab and save one klip at a time as a copy in order to be able to change the klips data sources without changing the original dashboard.

The feature request I would like to be added is to have an option to save dashboard as a copy or something like that, so we are able to copy an entire dashboard at once and create an additional tab where this copy should be added. After creating this copy, we could change the data sources and be able to create dashboards even faster and easier for our clients.

    Kind regards,

    Stefan Koning

    Hi Stefan,

Thank you for your note and clarification.  Glad you are aware of the Import functionality.

Good to have a better understanding of your use case.  Sounds like you are not just trying to duplicate the layout of the Dashboard using existing Klips and data sources, but are trying to create a net new dashboard with a complete duplicate of the Klips and data sources and that you would then revise / change the data sources.

I'll add this flavor of the use case to the enhancement request for prioritization.

    Cheers,

    Scott.

    Hi Scott,

That is exactly what I meant. Great that you are going to work on this topic!

    Hi Scott,

Any updates on this topic? Will this be fixed soon? Meanwhile, we have some additional clients which would like the exact same dashboard tabs but seperated per different country.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Stefan,

Thanks for the additional context.  This is on our radar, but I do not have a specific timeframe for it at the moment.

    Cheers,

    Scott.

Hi, i'm waiting for this too. 1 client, multiple countries. Sligthtly different configuration, but not doable with variables.

Right now this is my workflow for copying dashboards

    - i duplicate the datasoruces needed, edit and rename them
    - i then copy klip source code (under advanced) and reassign datasources and save it under a new name

    Love to hear a timeframe!

Hi, I am also waiting for this feature. It would make things much more easier, not sure why it still isn't sorted or why it wasn't in the core making of the software.

I would also like to see this feature.

I need to make a demo of the dashboard for use with families (school grade assessment is the use case).  I cannot have names affiliated with data for use in a demo, but to create a totally fake demo would be harder than just using a naming substitute.  I do not, however, want it to effect my main dashboard.  Any update on this?

I'd definitely like to see this too. Surprised this is not possible as it would be a huge time saver when creating new dashboards. There are pre-built dashboards built by Klipfolio for AdAdwords and other data sources which is nice and those are time savers but we need the same pre-built functionality for dashboards we create too.

Hi. Any news about this??? It would be really usefull to copy an entire dashboard, making automatic copies of all klips and its positions. This would allow me to connect other datasources for a new client with low effort.

Yes I'm quite surprised that this is not a feature. I think it would be useful when you want to edit the klip without it affected the original dashboard.

Any news on this? We often replicate dashboards for small proyects and it's a pain in the neck to copy paste everything.

Yes, agreed, this is a basic feature that will save a lot of time, should be fairly easy for the engineers to implement

I'm disappointed Klipfolio doesn't have such a basic feature. And even after 5 years people requesting it it's still not there.

    Hi,

Yes, the copy or duplicate dashboard feature seems to be a very very basic capability that pretty much all other reporting tools offer.

I'm shocked to see that such an otherwise sophisticated tool does not offer such a basic capability.

We need this for a couple different purposes.

We have 70+ clients (and growing quickly) that we need to send reports to. We've built dynamic client-specific data sources into the dashboard and are combining data from multiple data platform sources as well on the dashboard. And we are constantly trying to improve the dashboard functionality or metrics included across all clients or sub-groups of clients and trying different variations of dashboards and Klips across all or sub-groups of clients. Not being able to copy/duplicate a dashboard is extremely prohibitive to our progress and costs.

So our needs for duplicating or copying dashboards are below:

    1) To easily create a backup of a dashboard that we are coding and creating a variation of so that we can continue to send clients a good dashboard while customizing that same dashboard with small tweaks.

    2) We have several Tiers of clients, each needing a slightly modified version of the primary dashboard that we send to most clients. Thus we need a few versions of a nearly identical dashboard. Recreating new dashboards from scratch just to modify them slightly is 3 times the time commitment and effort and time to market so to speak.
