Drill-down option on more klip types

Hi,

I've asked via the support e-mail in the past, about the possibility of adding drill down capability to more klip types (primarily pie charts and line/bar graphs).  I was told that it's under discussion but there is no timeline for it right now.  This would be a very heavily used feature here and is considered the "make or break" feature for several of the dashboards I've been building, is there any way to opt-in to a notification mailing list or even a beta for this feature when any news is available?

  Hi Mike,

  Thanks you for adding your voice to this feature request.  I have heard a number of flavors of drill down being requested.  While this is not currently planned for a specific timeframe, I would like to better understand your use case.  How would you and your users use this feature?  Can you describe what you mean when you talk about 'drill down'?

  Hi Scott,

  Basically we're looking for the ability to get to the underlying data behind a couple of the 'higher level' klips - in particular line/bar graphs and pie charts.  For instance if I had a line graph showing support tickets opened (or closed) month to month, ideally clicking a single data point on the line would take me to a more detailed breakdown (i.e. a custom table klip) of the data for that month, possibly down to the ticket level.  A pie chart showing the categories of all tickets for a time span would drill down into a table as well showing tickets in the time span, for the category selected.

  If I even had a way to link two klips together (from the above example: click a portion of the pie chart, which sets 2 variables: category and time span, pass those to a table-style klip and display it) that would likely work, but I don't see a way at the moment.

  This is the #1 most frequently requested feature that I hear about from users, and is rapidly becoming a "make or break" item for them, most aren't even really willing to look at the dashboards I've built without being able to get the level of information they were used to previously.

  This is a much needed feature.  I've been on a trial with Klipfolio and I'm afraid I cannot signup for the product without this capability.  Most executives want to view pretty charts and graphs and drill down.  They will not accept it without this capability.  I think the product is great otherwise.  I'll check back in the future and if it's there, I'll use the product.  Thank You!

  I have heard multiple definitions of the term 'drill down'.  Can you describe more of what you and your users are looking for?

  Currently evaluating your product and agree that it would be great to have drill down, this is really the one big feature that I'm missing.  In regards to what I mean by drill down...allow for the ability to drill down on a Pie Chart Slice or Bar Chart bar and see the underlying data in a Table format.  One way I can envision this work in your product could be to hyperlink on the slice or bar and redirect to a Table (same tab, new tab or modal window) and pass as filter parameters to the table of the values the user clicked on.  

  Take a look for instance at the drill down capabilities in Salesforce Dashboards as an example.

  +1 for this feature.

  I need to be able to drill down into multiple layers of a chart. For example, if I'm looking at number of parts delivered per year by multiple facilities, I want to be able to drill down to see parts delivered in a certain year broken out by facility, then drill down to see the highest runner parts delivered by a specific facility with yields for each of those components, then drill to see what the most common defect is for the part. Is there any timeline when this will be available?

  Hi David,

  Thanks for raising this in the community and sharing your use case.  We do see the interaction with visualizations and seeing more context as valuable.  That said, this specific interaction has not yet been prioritized for a release, so unfortunately I do not have a timeframe for you at this time.

  Reading through your use case, it sounds like the big impact is being able to see additional context as you interact with a visualization.  Izak mentions that from his perspective, this could take the form of selecting a part of a chart (slice of a pie, bar of a series) and have that essentially act as a filter for another visualization.  

  Does this line up with your use case?  Given the multiple steps you described, are you looking to be able to prescribe a path across multiple measures/visualizations? 

  Any additional context would be great.  In the meantime, I've added your use case and name to the feature request to help with prioritization.

  Hi Scott,

  Yes, we currently use proprietary software which acts as a dashboard for our production data so this is an important feature to be able to replicate. The use case is similar to Izak's but with the ability to drill to charts in addition to tables. With our software, we always drill into the same dataset by joining various tables before graphing and setting up the drill steps, although being able to drill by triggering a hyperlink to another dataset with a filter based on the parent data would be very useful as well.

  I'd second this. The ability to set a variable by clicking on a component would be excellent.

  Use case

  1. Pie chart shows percentage revenue by product category for ecommerce website.

  2. Clicking on pie chart segment sets 'category' variable.

  3. Another component displaying a bar chart of top selling products automatically filters on the 'category' variable, allowing user to see where the revenue of the selected category comes from.

  Hey Scott 

   

  Is pretty strange that this feature still hasn't been implemented given the large number of upgrades your team has been making lately. At its most basic I'd like to see an "on click" event added to pie & bar charts that allow the series value of that clicked item to be passed to a variable that can affect other charts & klips.

  Take for instance a sales pipeline klip that has 3 pie charts and a table of values. You might visualize the following

  Pie chart of sales by rep

  Pie chart of sales by product

  Pie chart of sales by month

  Table with list of all sales

   

  If I click on the section of a pie that represents sales rep A for instance, I'd like the series name "sales rep a" to be able to be passed to a variable called Sales_rep.I could then code all my other charts and table to pay attention to that variable and if I were to click on the rep in the pie chart all other charts would drill down to just show that reps data.  You could use the same visualzation you have today where the pie chart "explodes" to show the clicked entity, another click would set the sales_rep  variable to blank and therefore reset the drill down.

  +1 this is slowly but surely becoming a critical feature that we cannot be lacking for much longer before we have to start looking for alternatives.
