Feature Request: Please make it possible to submit variable values via an URL

Hi,

When embedding a Klip, one can set variables to get different default values while using the same Klip. When embedding a published Dashboard, this isn't possible. I'd like to embed the same dashboard multiple times but use different default variable values without having to duplicate the dashboard and setting different default values. This could be relatively easy accomplished if one can set the default variable values via the published URL. If this could give people can access to data they shouldn't have access to, then at least make it possible to set the default drop down value via the URL.

    Hi Wouter,

Thank you for raising this enhancement request.  I will open the enhancement request and associate you with it for additional context.

Any additional information you can share about your use case would be great.  (How it fits into your web site, who the target users are, how it relates to other content in your site.  Trying to understand more about the context of the use case.)

    Thanks again,

    Scott.

    Hi Scott,

In combination with my other request (https://support.klipfolio.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/212725648-Feature-Request-Make-it-possible-to-publish-a-single-Klip), we would like to publish Klips and possibly embed them into PowerPoints so our Heads Of have interactive graphs during their presentations. Currently the embed Klip option isn't a solution for us since we cannot embed the javascript it generates and the embedded Klips graphs aren't interactive. Published dashboards are excellent for this goal and are easy to embed into Powerpoint.

If we could set drop down values via the URL, we could use one single dashboard or Klip and show information for our different companies and products and not have to duplicate the same dashboard a dozen of times (with the only difference being the drop down value). And when we want to change something, currently we'd have to make the same changes to these dozen dashboards. Instead we'd have one 'template' that we'd reuse every time but give different 'drop down' values (via the published Klip/dashboard URL) to make it show different data each time it's loaded.

    I hope I'm making sense. :)

    Regards,
    Wouter

    Hi Wouter,

Thank you again for the additional context.  I will add that to the enhancement request.

Regarding having multiple published links with different variable values, when you talk about making changes, what changes are you making?  If you update a Dashboard that has already been published (Klip content, layout, etc.) , the published dashboard picks up the changes.  Since you can publish a single dashboard multiple times with different sets of variable settings, (even using hidden input controls to help with that), you should be able to minimize the impact of changes.

Let me know if I have misunderstood your concern.

    Cheers,

    Scott.

    Hello Scott,

The problem is twofold. Your solution can only show one dashboard. For KPI screen projection published dashboards aren't an option since it cannot hide the top bar and it cannot show a slideshow of dashboards (afaik). What I like to accomplish are two things:

    • Show the same dashboard but with different set variable values in a slideshow for a KPI screen/display
    • Embed single Klips into PowerPoint with different set variable values

    Regards,
    Wouter

I'd also like to request this feature.

We are a manufacturing company, and we use Klipfolio to display hours in a job. There are several jobs on the floor at once, and the jobs change regularly. We currently have one Klip design that allows us to choose the job we want and have all hour data display. I put four of these Klips into a dashboard and select the four jobs I want displayed. This dashboard is then displayed on four TVs around our facility. However, the selected job will not "stick." I set up each TV with my desired jobs, and when I come back later, all Klips have reverted to a different job (perhaps the first on the list?). Ideally I'd like to be able to set the intended job for each Klip from my computer and be able to change it from my computer without having to go to each TV.

    Katie,

I stumbled across this feature request today. I may have an idea for a workaround for your particular use case (if you're displaying the exact same dashboard with the same 4 jobs on every TV). You could use a "user property" to set a static value for the four Klips. A single user property with four values entered should do the trick (ex. Job1,Job2,Job3,Job4). You can grab the new user property parameter, declare that as array within the Klip and then slice out the particular job you want to display for each widget.

Then, from your own machine, all you would have to do is alter that user property for the user account used to display the dashboards. The pages on the TVs would still need to be refreshed but there are browser extensions (I know there are several for Chrome) that would auto refresh them for you on a recurring schedule causing the Klips to render again with new property setting.

Of course, this wouldn't work if the Klips were embedded and displayed through a web page. But I think it would work if you're logged into the same Klip account on each TV.

    Thanks!

I would also like this feature to be implemented! It is very difficult to scale the klips and dashboards across multiple clients and tvs without using user input controls on the klips. We can't publish the dashboards that use these klips since each time the dashboard refreshes, it returns to the default user input variable. If we could pass variables via the published link URL, we could set the link in place with a specific user input variable for the tv's audience and then forget it. We use a service called ScreenCloud which allows us to use the published dashboards in a slide show on an android tv.

Same issue is occuring here, I have created a klip with a dynamic data source. When I copy this klip 10 times into a dashboard then share the dashboard via a url all of the klips go back to default on the drop down.

It needs a dashboard level defaults and variables override, or some sort of save state as there may be variables i.e. dates that you will not want to override but view and settings that may need to be changed.

    Hi,

I have the same feature request. Though my request is to be able to embed a single dynamic Klip into a Google Slide presentation.

Publish link is not really an option. A publish link is for the whole dashboard, while what we wanted is to simply embed kilp/s into a presentation via Google Slide.

Let me know if this is coming or no hope at all.

    Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to inform the thread that regretfully, we do not have immediate plans to move on this feature.

    Thank you,
