Google AdWords API Changes (from v201802 to v201809)

Hey everyone!

 

Just a heads up that Google AdWords has released changes to their API and is deprecating some existing functionality. Klipfolio is migrating from API v201802 to v201809, this will impact Google AdWords data sources and Klips on January 30th. We will be performing our migration to v201809 to support your existing data sources on January 24th.

 

You shouldn’t need to take any action but if you are still using API v201802 through v201806 please check out Google Adwords Migration Guides (v201806, v201809) for more information.

 

What I should know?

  • The AdvertisingChannelSubType field’s SHOPPING_UNIVERSAL_ADS value is now renamed to SHOPPING_GOAL_OPTIMIZED_ADS.
  • The AdGroupType field’s SHOPPING_UNIVERSAL_ADS value is now renamed to SHOPPING_GOAL_OPTIMIZED_ADS.
  • In the Campaign Performance Report, the AdvertisingChannelSubType field will now return a value of "Shopping Campaign (goal-optimized)" where it previously returned "Universal Shopping Campaign".
  • In the Campaign Performance Report, The AdvertisingChannelSubType field will now return a value of -- instead of an empty string for Smart display campaigns.
  • In the Ad Group Performance Report, the AdGroupType field will now return a value of "Shopping - Goal-optimized" where it previously returned "Shopping - Universal".
  • The AdGroupType field’s SHOPPING_UNIVERSAL_ADS value is now renamed to SHOPPING_GOAL_OPTIMIZED_ADS.
  • In the Ad Performance Report, the PolicySummary field now has a display value of "Policy" instead of "Ad policies".
  • Requests that select either of the following incompatible combinations will now fail with the following error, “ReportDefinitionError.INVALID_FIELD_NAME_FOR_REPORT”:
    • ClickType and ConversionLagBucket
    • HourOfDay and any of the following:
      • CostPerCurrentModelAttributedConversion
      • CurrentModelAttributedConversions
      • CurrentModelAttributedConversionValue
      • ValuePerCurrentModelAttributedConversion
  • The new error reason CAMPAIGN_CANNOT_USE_SHARED_BUDGET_WHILE_PART_OF_CAMPAIGN_GROUP was added and will be returned under relevant circumstances.
  • DESTINATION_URL_REPORT was removed when upgraded URLs support was added to the API. Use FINAL_URL_REPORT instead.

  

After January 24th please double-check that any Klips using Google AdWords data sources work as expected.
