We care about your data privacy. We recommend you always ask why a software service needs permissions.
Some general questions include:
- Is the app or service from a trustworthy source?
- Do I understand why this app needs these permissions?
Why does PowerMetrics need permission to connect to your service data?
PowerMetrics asks for these permissions to allow the PowerMetrics app to connect to your data. Without permission to access your data, you won't be able to see your data in the visualizations you build or retrieve data to store in the metrics you create in PowerMetrics.
Tell me more about how permissions work
By design, data services protect users by asking apps, like PowerMetrics, to apply for and then request permission from the user. Part of the authentication process for services that use OAuth (a secure authentication method) requires that you allow PowerMetrics to access information and data associated with your account.
PowerMetrics asks for read only permissions by default but there are some services, for example, those with only one level of permission, that require us to request read/write permission. Please note -- PowerMetrics never actually writes data to your data source.
Some services, like Google, allow you to access multiple applications. For these services, PowerMetrics uses the same credentials (or OAuth token) to access the additional accounts you want to connect to. For example, the first time you authenticate with Google, PowerMetrics may ask for permission to access YouTube. We won't actually connect to your YouTube data until you create queries against YouTube. But, asking for permission when you first authenticate makes it easier for you to connect to YouTube (and other Google services) later.
If you manage multiple accounts and you want to connect to data from those accounts, PowerMetrics will ask for additional permissions.
Note: To see the services you've connected PowerMetrics to, go to your list of connections. (Click your Account Name at the bottom of the left navigation sidebar and select Account > Connected Accounts. If you don’t see this option, click the button in the left navigation sidebar and select Connections.)
What does PowerMetrics do with the information it collects?
For data sources and modelled data sources, the data is not placed in long term storage. Each refresh replaces the data. In PowerMetrics, each refresh of the underlying modelled data source results in additional data associated with the metric being incrementally added to the history of the data and stored securely in PowerMetrics. When creating a metric you define the columns of data from the source that you want PowerMetrics to store. You can contact our Support team at support@klipfolio.com and request the permanent deletion of your stored metric data at any time.
