Displaying PowerMetrics on a dashboard

Klipfolio includes 2 different types of dashboards:

  • Klip dashboards - used to display Klips and PowerMetrics
  • PowerMetric dashboards - used only for PowerMetrics

What is a PowerMetric dashboard?

This article primarily describes PowerMetric dashboards, which we will refer to from here on simply as “dashboards”. Where Klip dashboards are being discussed, they will be referred to as such. For more information on the differences between PowerMetric dashboards and Klip dashboards, go here.

Dashboards are used to display a set of related PowerMetrics. As with all PowerMetric features, our dashboards include an element of discovery.

Dashboards are highly flexible, empowering you to create unique displays tailored to your specific needs and audience. This flexibility enables you to mold your data to effectively inform others and illustrate progress toward your business goals. A diverse set of configuration options means you can individualize each dashboard display.

When interacting with a dashboard, available options depend on whether you are in View mode or Edit mode.

The article includes the following:

Adding and deleting a dashboard

To add a dashboard:

  1. In PowerMetrics, click the + beside Dashboards and enter a name for the dashboard by selecting the text in the title text field and typing a name.
  2. Click Save.

To delete a dashboard:

  1. In PowerMetrics, under Dashboards, select the dashboard you want to delete.
  2. Click the 3-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the dashboard and click Delete.

View mode

View mode enables you to set personal options for your dashboard. The customizations you make while in View mode persist locally and are only visible to you. If you want to make permanent changes to a PowerMetric on your dashboard, you need to be in Edit mode.

When in View mode, you can:

  • Enter Edit mode. (This option is only available if you created the dashboard or have been granted Edit access to it.)
  • Share the dashboard. Learn more about sharing here.
  • Revert back to the original, pre-personalization settings for the dashboard and, by association, all of its PowerMetrics. This reset only impacts your view of the PowerMetrics and the dashboard.
  • Delete the dashboard. (This option is only available if you created the dashboard or have been granted Edit access to it.)
  • Select the date range and dimensions by which to filter all PowerMetrics on the dashboard (by selecting an option from the drop-down list and calendar at the top of the dashboard).
  • Access the following options for individual PowerMetrics on the dashboard (by clicking the 3-dot menu for each PowerMetric):
  • Personalize - Here you can modify a range of options, such as, choosing to break lines for blank values, selecting an alternate aggregation method, and comparing your data to a previous time period. Personalization changes persist locally and are only visible to you. For more detailed information on PowerMetric settings, see the Edit mode section below and this Knowledge Base article.
  • Go to (name of the PowerMetric) - Navigate to the PowerMetric's Explore View page.
  • Add to PowerMetric dashboard - Add the PowerMetric to an existing or new dashboard.
  • Expand/Collapse - Interact with and personalize your PowerMetrics while in full-screen mode. Once one PowerMetric is expanded, you can navigate between all of the PowerMetrics on a dashboard. Personalization and other options are accessed from the expanded PowerMetric’s 3-dot menu. When you’re done exploring, click the button to collapse the PowerMetric and return to your dashboard.
  • About  - Display information about the PowerMetric, including its name (if you click the link beside Name, you open the PowerMetric in its Explore view) and owner, the date it was last modified and refreshed, and a definition (if it was created using one of the metrics from Metric HQ).

Edit mode

Edit mode is used for authoring and editing dashboards for you and your team. When you make changes in Edit mode, you are setting the default display that everyone will see when viewing the dashboard and its PowerMetrics.

Edit mode options range from simple modifications, like adding PowerMetrics to and removing PowerMetrics from a dashboard and modifying the dashboard layout, to more integral edits, such as selecting an alternate date range, choosing a different visualization type, and viewing cumulative data and trend lines.

When you add a dashboard, you enter in Edit mode, where you can interactively make adjustments to your dashboard and each of its PowerMetrics. To enter Edit mode for an existing dashboard, click the Edit button in the upper-right corner of the dashboard.

Notes:

  • You can edit dashboards that you created and dashboards that have been shared with you (if you are granted Edit access).
  • Your edits only take effect after you click “Save”. After saving, changes are reflected in everyone’s view of the dashboard when they refresh their web page.

This section includes:

Configuring dashboard settings

There are a couple of configuration options you set at the dashboard level. The settings you choose for the date range and filtering options will apply by default to all PowerMetrics on the dashboard, however, viewers of the dashboard can optionally make changes to those settings.

You can also add the filter control to the dashboard, without making any selections, enabling viewers to create their own.

If you modify the filters and want to return to the dashboard’s original settings, click the 3-dot menu for the dashboard and select Revert. Note that this action also resets all personalization settings you applied to the PowerMetrics on the dashboard.

To set the date range:

  • Select from the drop-down list and calendar options at the top of the dashboard.

To set filtering:

  1. Click the Filter button and select the dimensions you want to display on your dashboard.
  2. Click Apply.
  3. For each dimension you selected, choose the members you want to display on your dashboard:
  1. Click the dimension's drop-down arrow.
  2. Click Include.
  3. Select the members you want to display.
  4. Click Filter.

If there are a lot of members in your PowerMetric, use the Search feature to find them.

Note: For narrow browser windows, click the right-pointing arrow, beside "x filters applied", to view and modify your list of applied filters.

Configuring individual PowerMetric settings

To configure an individual PowerMetric, click its 3-dot menu and select Configure. This opens its configuration panel.

From the configuration panel, you can:

  • Rename a PowerMetric. (You can also rename a PowerMetric in Edit mode by selecting its name and modifying it.)

  • Change the chart type and style.

  • Either display a continuous line or break lines when there are gaps in data.

  • Select a date range. The Use dashboard date range option is selected by default and applies the date range as set at the dashboard level. You can optionally select Custom to set a unique date range for a PowerMetric.

If you chose Custom, you can access date range setting details by clicking "x" filter. See below:

  • Select an alternate aggregation method.

  • Choose to view your data cumulatively.

  • Choose the dimension(s) by which you want to segment your data.

  • Choose the time periodicity for the PowerMetric, for example, hourly, daily, or weekly.

  • Choose to add a trend line.

  • Choose to either apply no comparison or to compare your data to a previous period.

  • Filter your data by selecting the members to include for each dimension.

Note: Dimensional member filtering is done at the dashboard level but you can choose to apply unique filters at the individual PowerMetric level. Your individual PowerMetric settings override those that are set at the dashboard level. For example, if the dimensional member “Germany” is selected at the dashboard level and you select “Greece” at the individual PowerMetric level, the individual PowerMetric will display data for “Greece” only. When you apply unique filtering, you can access filter details by clicking "x" filter in the PowerMetric tile.
